I wanted to make a racing game that takes you back to when games were hard, finished, and yours — no subscription, no timers, no waiting.

Fastest Lap is a top-down 2D time-attack racer for iPhone, with a twenty-one-round career, leaderboards, and achievements. There are no opponents, because there is nothing to overtake: the whole game is one clean lap against the clock, the way a qualifying run is. Your best lap stays out on the road as a ghost — your own inputs, replayed — and a live delta argues with you in every corner. Put a wheel off and the lap is gone, but a restart is one gesture and half a second, so you just go again.

No third-party engine. It runs on a deterministic core I wrote in Zig, and the whole point of the project is that everything is built in code: no sprites, no sound files, no textures. The twenty-four circuits, their scenery, the engine note, and the music are all generated as it runs. The app ships three images, and all three are the icon.

One payment unlocks everything forever, including the circuits I add later — three are free before you pay anything. RevenueCat handles it.

The part I'm proudest of: the game's own code — every menu, the renderer, the audio synthesis, the physics — is 1.8 MB, and the crazy initial idea worked exactly as intended.
