Inspiration
For my mom’s 78th birthday, I wanted to create something that captured her love for France and the timeless chansons we listened to on family trips in the 80s. Though Yellow Tail is an Australian wine, I turned it into a French song: performed by an old man joyfully singing about his favorite wines, accompanied by six dancing kangaroos. The song blends nostalgia, humor, and warmth, written in the spirit of artists like Aznavour, Brel, and Gérard Lenorman.
What it does
Yellow Tail – the Music Video is an AI-generated French chanson that celebrates life, love, and the joy of simple pleasures: wine, music, and memory. It combines AI music generation, image synthesis, and animation to bring a whimsical story to life: a cheerful old man and his six kangaroos singing about their favorite Chardonnay.
How we built it
The lyrics began in English, then were refined and translated into rhyming French with ChatGPT.
Music was composed using Suno, inspired by 1980s French chanson style.
Visuals were built through Freepik and Weavy, using Nano Banana, Seedream, and Qwen Image Edit for character design and composition. Images were upscaled with Freepik Magnific and EnhancorAI, then composited in Photoshop. The logo was made with Ideogram.
Animation and lipsync were created using KlingAI, Weavy, Sync2Pro, and Pixverse, while non-singing sequences came from Freepik Veo3. Final editing and color grading were done in Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Lumetri.
Challenges we ran into
The most challenging aspect was achieving realistic lipsync: I had to merge results from multiple tools to create natural results.
Maintaining high-quality, Full shots in motion was another struggle; many engines couldn’t retain the detail of the 5K stills. Even with Topaz Starlight and Astra, balancing realism and style required constant refinement.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of how seamlessly different AI tools came together to form a coherent, emotionally resonant piece.
I also believe it's just fun and feels authentic: a true fusion of nostalgia and technology — and a heartfelt tribute to my mother’s love of music and life. She loved it by the way. And poured herself another drink.
What we learned
I learned how to orchestrate multiple AI tools like instruments in a band: each has its own strength, but harmony only comes from creative direction.
Also, that we’re _ almost _ there when it comes to convincing realistic scenes. Just a few more months needed :-)
What's next for Yellow Tail - Music Video
I plan to make a “making of” for Yellow Tail, showing every stage of the process so others can fully appreciate what goes into crafting an AI-driven music video like this.
