Inspiration

The Women Protection Drone was inspired by the need to create a safer environment for women. With the rising concerns about women’s safety, particularly in isolated areas or during odd hours, this drone aims to act as an immediate response tool, reducing the time it takes for help to arrive. The goal is to empower women by providing them with a quick-access solution that can both deter attackers and provide real-time assistance.

What it does

The drone assists women in distress by rushing to the scene when an SOS alert is activated on their mobile device. Once triggered, the drone locates the woman using GPS, activates police sirens, and starts live streaming the surroundings to nearby authorities. The siren also alerts local residents, encouraging them to intervene or assist until the police arrive. The drone's presence acts as a deterrent to the attacker, creating an immediate and visible response.

How we built it

We built the Women Protection Drone using a combination of:

GPS Tracking System: To locate the woman's mobile device in real time. Autonomous Flight System: Integrated with the drone, enabling it to navigate to the distress location automatically. Real-time Video Streaming: Using a camera attached to the drone that streams live footage to nearby authorities. Siren and Alert Mechanism: Equipped with loud sirens to draw attention and deter the attacker. Mobile Integration: An SOS button in the mobile app triggers the drone, making it a simple and accessible tool for women in emergencies.

Challenges we ran into

GPS Accuracy: Ensuring precise location tracking in various terrains or urban areas where signals can fluctuate. Battery Life: Balancing the power needed for sirens, live streaming, and flight time to ensure it reaches and stays at the scene long enough. Real-time Streaming Quality: Maintaining a stable and high-quality live feed without significant latency. Autonomous Navigation: Developing obstacle-avoidance capabilities to ensure the drone reaches the location safely and efficiently.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrating autonomous flight and GPS tracking for seamless navigation. Creating a reliable and responsive alert system that activates the drone and streams video in real-time. Developing a compact, high-efficiency design that allows the drone to reach the distress location quickly, despite challenges with battery life. Receiving positive feedback from testers who felt it was a significant step toward improving safety.

What we learned

The importance of precision in GPS tracking and how it impacts response time. How autonomous systems can be refined to adapt to various terrains, improving drone navigation. The value of real-time communication systems, especially in high-stakes scenarios. Insight into designing user-friendly interfaces for quick SOS activation.

What's next for Women Protection Drone

Enhanced AI Capabilities: Integrating AI to detect potentially dangerous situations based on environmental cues or sounds. Two-way Communication: Adding a speaker for authorities to communicate with the woman while the drone is en route. Advanced Obstacle Detection: Using LiDAR and improved obstacle-avoidance algorithms for safer navigation. Battery Optimization: Exploring longer-lasting power solutions to extend operational time. Partnership with Law Enforcement: Collaborating with local police departments for faster response and dispatch coordination.
