Inspiration

Tracebility of consumer goods offers a lot when it comes to certain industries. When stakeholders know where comodoties like coffee come from they can make better decisions about humanitarian, environmental and sustainability endeavors. Tracebility also allows for quality control, accountability and production efforts.

What it does

Our project is about trace sourcing coffee from farm to consumer. Our final output allows users to input an address and recieve a story about the coffee they are drinking. It starts from the farm where it was harvested, to where it was shipped, to where it was roasted, and finally to where it was sold for consumption.

With our app, stakeholders can use this tracebility information to make sure the farmers have humanitarian rights. They can trace how far their coffee has traveled, whether it was grown on an organic and/or fair trade farm and overall environmental impacts. This app could also potentially be used on the production side as a tool for supply chain tracking.

Challenges we ran into

Better data - more accurate data, actual supply chain stops. Time - with more time we would be able to invest more in researching technologies to lead to better outcomes. Current skillset levels - with more experience and more knowledge would lead to better time management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A good first prototype that is a start of our vision.

What we learned

What's next for Where's your next coffee?

Labels and filters to highlight farms that are certified: fair trade, organic, sustainably sourced, etc. Supply chain tracking. Levels of positive and negative impacts. Improved functionality.
