WanderQuest AI
Inspiration
Traditional travel apps focus on maps, reviews, and itineraries, but they rarely make exploration truly engaging. Most travelers end up following the same routes and visiting the same attractions.
We wanted to reimagine travel by asking:
What if every city became an open-world RPG?
Inspired by adventure games like Assassin's Creed, Pokémon GO, and Dungeons & Dragons, we built Wander Quest AI—an AI-powered travel companion that transforms real-world exploration into an interactive adventure. Instead of simply recommending places, the AI becomes a Game Master that creates personalized stories, quests, puzzles, characters, and rewards based on the user's destination and interests.
What it does
WanderQuest AI turns every trip into a unique adventure.
Users enter their destination, budget, trip duration, interests, and preferred adventure theme. The AI then generates a personalized storyline where the traveler becomes the main character.
Each adventure includes:
- A unique story and objective
- AI-generated quests and side missions
- Interactive NPCs with dialogue and clues
- Historical riddles and puzzles
- Photography and exploration challenges
- Rewards, achievements, and collectibles
- Multiple endings based on user choices
For example:
"The Royal Seal of the Maratha Empire has been stolen. Recover it before sunset by solving clues hidden across Pune's historic landmarks."
No two adventures are the same.

Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was combining AI storytelling with real-world travel. The adventures needed to feel immersive while remaining practical and relevant to actual locations.
Another challenge was designing a quest system that could generate diverse missions without becoming repetitive. We also focused on balancing gameplay elements like progression, rewards, and branching storylines while keeping the user experience simple and intuitive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built an AI-powered Game Master for real-world travel.
- Combined storytelling, navigation, and gamification into a single experience.
- Created a system where every adventure is dynamically generated.
- Encouraged travelers to discover lesser-known locations through interactive quests.
What we learned
This project showed us how generative AI can move beyond recommendations and become an interactive companion that adapts to user choices.
We also learned more about prompt engineering, full-stack development, map integration, and designing engaging user experiences with AI.
What's next
Our roadmap includes:
- AR-based landmark scanning
- AI image verification for photo quests
- Voice conversations with AI companions
- Multiplayer adventures
- Offline mode
- Community-created adventures
- Seasonal events and tourism partnerships
Our long-term vision is to create a platform where every city becomes an interactive adventure, making travel more engaging, educational, and memorable.
