Inspiration

Covid-19 has drastically changed the world as we know it, and its impact has been seen across all aspects of life. With the travel and tourism industry being one of the most impacted by the pandemic, international tourist arrivals fell by 72% in January-October 2020, according to the latest issue of the World Tourism Organization. Social distancing and travel restrictions have also resulted in people spending more time at home, without an outlet to relieve their stress and take a break. According to the recent Amex Trendex report, 48% of responders believe not being able to travel is making them feel anxious and stressed. This inspired us to look for new ways to bring travel alive while still adhering to travel restrictions.

What it does

An app that allows users to virtually immerse themselves in different cities and provides holistic curated experiences. Users can explore the app to find the cities they wish to visit. They can select an attraction, engage with the culture or learn to cook the local cuisine. Wanderlist provides an escape from daily monotony and relieves the frustration of not being able to travel.

How I built it

Wanderlist was built and prototyped using Figma.

Challenges I ran into

Given the time constraints, we were unable to conduct user interviews and relied on existing market research. Another challenge we faced during this hackathon was finding a developer to complete our team. We eventually decided to research and build our app within Figma.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

As a team, we are proud of our ability to work within a short time constraint and to come together to produce a product that aims at solving a global problem.

What I learned

This hackathon gave us the opportunity to further develop our rapid design thinking, explore different problem spaces and collaborate successfully within the team.

What's next for Wanderlist App

Some next steps for the app would be to develop the remaining user flows and validate our ideas through usability testing and interviewing. We would also like to collaborate with a developer and bring Wanderlist to life.

Disclaimer

The 180VR experience seen in the prototype has been sampled from a youtube video. link This video was purely utilized as a place holder for the purpose of this hackathon project and will not be used in any future development or commercial purposes.
