Life can be challenging but we can find our way when we work together. Hi, I'm Corrie Osuna Fashion Designer, Illustrator and now thanks to Emory I'm an Author. This story is inspired by the real life events and shenanigans of myself and my son. He's the inspiration for the main character and for my sincere efforts to live the best life possible.

May this text serve as inspiration as you move through your best life too!

What it does

This book shows you how to get through difficult times and find happiness through connection.

Challenges I ran into

My son and I both became ill during the process of creating this story. As a single parent and an Adjunct Instructor without medical benefits, I became deeply concerned about both my son and I. Thankfully he bounced back quickly and I was eventually able to make a full recovery after several weeks of fighting infection that exacerbated the underlying assortment of my other medical conditions. These include scholiosis, high blood pressure and heart disease.

It's funny how during the time of difficulty, pain is magnified, but once the victory is won the pain melts away and a newness emerges stronger and more brilliant than ever before.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I finished this in less than a week even though I became ill in the process, I continued onward.

What I learned

Working together and staying connected is the way to maintain well being, health and peace.

What's next for Together We'll Find It

The story of the Mom who is a Nurse fighting Covid-19. You'll notice she wears scrubs and clogs although there is no mention of her profession.

Well, this detail is intentionally left out because Nurse Sue is on the front lines fighting for our collective health and safety. She has her own story to tell and it's a doozy!

I am now working on the full color version of the professional finished sketches for Together We'll Find It.

When I originally became aware of the EGHI Covid-19 Children's Book Competition, I intended to create color illustrations in the manner that I usually do as a Fashion Illustrator.

Then I became ill and was unable to fulfill that intention but I knew for sure that I wasn't going to let anything stop me from participating in this hackathon competition. This life changing opportunity presented as something that I absolutely was not going to miss.

So then, I put on my thinking cap and decided that something was better than nothing. I made the choice right then to take the initial sketches from my pad and just use those. I settled on the fact that, the originality of the images was the main ingredient.

So there you have it, my submission shows initial sketches because that's all I could do. But now, I am healthy and strong and I can do MORE! So I am now hard at work back at the sketching table with my paint, brushes, pens and all.

I'll post the updates as I go along. for me, the lesson here is that no matter what, I was present, I showed up and I did my personal best given my immediate circumstances.

Difficulty didn't break me although I did have a few doubts at times. Thankfully, I was constantly reminded of the premise of the book I was writing and that's what brought me sailing through. I couldn't have done it alone, so for the people who are a part of my better togehter, Thank YOU!

I am working on the second volume of Together We'll find It. The next story will focus on the Mom who is a nurse on the front lines. I will dive into the challenges she faces, how she overcomes her own fears and how she makes a full recovery from her own bout with illness so that she can return to the front lines to resume her post again.

I am grateful for the many people like Nurse Sue, who sacrifice willingly for our collective health and safety. To them, I am eternally grateful and I proudly seek to honor them with my efforts in sharing this story.
