Inspiration

From our primary research, we found out how users want credibility when viewing health information on TikTok without having to exit the app. We then did market analysis to looked at what similar social media apps have done to address this issue and developed our ideas from there.

What it does

Our redesign of the TikTok interface includes 3 main features: verification badge, exposure boost, and credibility metre. Healthcare professionals who are content creators have the option to submit their credentials so they can obtain a verification badge, which would appear on their profile and on top of their profile picture when viewers come across their posts. Their posts would also be pushed for exposure, enabling their content to reach more users. Meanwhile, AI technology backed with a credible medical database would analyse any health content posted by both professionals and general content creators, and then a credibility metre would show the credibility percentage of the content in the post.

How we built it

After ideation and system designing, we prototyped the redesign of the interface on Figma.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into several limitations, such as the lack of access to healthcare professionals for primary research and time constraints that led to a lack of user testing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our innovative problem framing that focuses on a creator's perspective. Instead of restricting certain content, we focused on encouraging and incentivising the spread of credible information, creating a credible digital environment.

What we learned

We learned how to consider all stakeholders' perspectives, primary research techniques such as speed interviewing, and managing conflicts within a team.

What's next for Health@TikTok

There are future opportunities to conduct primary research with our primary target audience, healthcare professionals, as well as user testing our prototype. We can also expand the scope of our solution to other platforms and locations.
