Inspiration
Sustainability is recognized as one of the key challenges of our time and nearly 80% of UK consumers are seeking ways to change their purchasing habits. While awareness and a good intention are high, average consumers lack tools to systematically address their sustainability footprint and strategically direct their efforts towards long-lasting and measurable behavior change.
What it does
The Brown Bag is an easy-to-use digital assistant that helps you visualize the sustainability impact of your purchasing decisions. It breaks down suggested changes in your consumption behavior into small, achievable steps that will keep you motivated.
How we built it
Using UX design practices, we spent our first day brainstorming and designing our idea. We built our prototype on Figma and made graphics with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Challenges we ran into
Fine-tuning our idea to meet a user pain-point was our first hurdle. After running a few user interviews and speaking with mentors, we were able to get the right value proposition - providing sustainable food alternatives to the eco-conscious user.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the journey we took on in terms of defining a real user story that has impact. Over the weekend, we went through several processes of design iterations always ensuring that every team member's voice was heard. The collaboration was a true team skill that we took away from this weekend.
What we learned
- Balancing revenue-generating activities with a social-oriented mission
- The complexity of the sustainable food industry
- Reducing the number of features to solve for a key user pain-point
