Inspiration
My grandfather (also Nico's) has experienced diplegia since he was 35, but I always thought it was a rare condition. Since I heard about the hackathon, I noticed more and more people on the street with vision and motor impairments. I also realized that disabilities take many forms and can be invisible. I initiated a few conversations in public transit and contacted beauty influencers with impairments to learn more about their experiences with cosmetics. It became apparent that finding beauty products that they would love was a challenge.
What it does
Textured is a mobile app that gives custom beauty product recommendations based on your profile. It is a great way to access details such as product ergonomics, identification, and preventative measures.
How we built it
So far, we have built a high-fidelity mockup using Adobe illustrator and Figma. The next step will be building the front end in react native and the back end with Flask and PostgreSQL in a docker container.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, I struggled to find teammates on DevPost. Fortunately, people around me were willing to jump aboard, which was awesome. Overall, time was our primary constraint (this was more work than expected!).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our teamwork in such a short time. We had a lot of fun pulling all-nighters at each other's place.
What we learned
We learned a lot about universal design for both physical and digital products.
What's next for Textured
We are looking for funding to make the textured app a reality!
