Inspiration

There is a lack of engaging and accessible education about water sustainability for younger audiences (and even adults). It's crucial to teach future generations how to protect this vital resource and show them how their everyday actions can make a difference.

What it does

Water Heroes is a platform designed to engage young audiences in learning about water conservation. Through interactive content like quizzes, fun facts, and lessons, it educates children on the importance of water sustainability and encourages them to take action. The platform makes learning about this crucial topic both enjoyable and impactful.

How we built it

- Front-end: Next.js

-Back-end: Next.js, Firebase Authentication, Firestore Database

-Design: Figma, Illustrator

Other Resources: BarnImages, Lucide Icons, Adobe Stock, Pexels Videos

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges getting authentication to work, especially when connecting the server-side routes to the client pages. It took some trial and error with Postman to resolve the issues. Additionally, we struggled to create a concept that would appeal to a younger audience, as we didn’t have access to anyone from that demographic to interview or consult for user testing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Point System: Implemented a point system to reward users for completing lessons and quizzes.

-Authentication: Set up a secure authentication system using Firebase, allowing users to create accounts.

-Children's design: Keeping in mind the way information is presented so that its digestible for children to use.

What we learned

What's next for Water Heroes

- Interactive Lessons: Added interactions to make the lessons more engaging for kids

- Quizzes: A chance to test one’s knowledge and get rewards

- Mini Games: While challenges may focus on completing specific lessons in a time frame, implementing mini-games will make it more fun and engaging for children to learn about water sustainability.

Achievements: Reward system with badges by completing challenges.
