Inspiration
I lost $1,250 of my own savings on my first three six. I was 16. Entirly due to lack of exposure.
What it does
StockGift lets you send any dollar amount of stock to friends and family as easily as sending money on Venmo. Recipients can hold, track, learn from, or sell their stock, turning everyday payments into investments.
Four simple steps: choose a person, choose a stock, enter an amount, and send. Lets your friends and family send you partial stocks. As a alternative to cash via Venmo, CashApp or Zelle. Nothing was built for the actual journey: learn, quiz yourself, practice in a realsandbox, measure your growth of funds.
Why it matters: Most people never learn about stocks because they don’t know where to start. Receiving a stock already chosen by a friend gives them an easy first step into investing, encouraging them to follow its performance, learn how the market works, and potentially grow the value of their gift over time.
How we built it
I used Figma and Adobe tools to design the interface, mockups, and visualize the user experience. I also researched fractional investing and existing payment platforms to make the concept simple, realistic, and easy to understand.
Challenges we ran into
I'm proud of turning a simple idea into a clear product concept and prototype. I designed StockGift to show how sending stocks could feel as easy as sending money, while turning everyday gifts and payments into opportunities to introduce people to investing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Simple idea is now a realistic product concept. We created a prototype that shows how sending stocks could feel as easy as sending money, while also giving everyday gifts and payments the potential to introduce more people to investing.
What we learned
I learned that innovation in finance doesn't always require creating something complicated. A simple change in how people access investing can make it more approachable. I also learned more about fractional shares, stock gifting, and the financial requirements that would need to be considered if StockGift became a real product.
What's next for StockGift: Like Venmo, But for Stocks
Making a real prototype with:
- Deep post-trade analysis that reviews your closed positions and identifies specific patterns in your behavior, not just "you lost money," but "you consistently sell too early on momentum plays" or "your stop-losses are too tight on volatile assets"
- Personalized lesson recommendations based on your trading mistakes, the AI spots your weak areas and links directly to the specific quiz or lesson module that covers them
- Chart pattern recognition that identifies common technical patterns (head and shoulders, double tops, support/resistance breaks, trend channels) on any asset's price chart and explains what they typically signal
- AI-generated trade journal entries, after each trade, the coach writes a summary of what happened, what the market was doing, and what you could have done differently
- Weekly AI-generated progress reports summarizing your trading patterns, improvement areas, and suggested focus for the next week
- Integration with the new backtesting engine, the AI can suggest backtesting parameters based on your actual trading patterns
