Inspiration
A day before the hackathon, one of our teammates went to the speed networking event. He met someone who had just moved to his area and was asked about places they should explore and visit. In that moment of his brain going blank, he thought of a way to easily, personally share the best spots in his area. “Spots!” Was born.
What it does
Spots! Does 3 things. It gives you a profile page to select 5 of your favourite places. It assigns every user a personal code for them to share. And finally, it allows users to input a personal code to view the 5 spots.
Challenges we ran into
Logistically, we had one member from Canada, a member from Australia and 2 members from India which made scheduling meetings extremely difficult. One of the main challenges was adjusting and learning new languages. One of the hardest parts was implementing the map location selection function. Not only that but combining these back-end features to front-end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were proud that we could create a working application that we are proud of!
What we learned
A lot of these new tech stacks!
What's next for Spot!
Refining the front end with a cleaner UI was a very apparent improvement we could've made. We could also implement a voting or global feature to see the top spots for all users. Perhaps we could implement links or usernames as opposed to codes to make it even easier to use and share.
