Inspiration
Ever had the urge to play volleyball, football, basketball, ... but nobody to play with? We had this exact situation in mind when we came up with SportsMunich short for Sports Platform for Organizing Recreational Team Sports Munich.
What it does
SportsMunich lets you create, find and join local sport meetups both planned or spontaneous with just a few taps. Whether you want to meet new people, try a new sport or just find opponents for a 6v6 volleyball game this is the right platform for you. Just click on a location on the map and specify activity, number of people and time. You just created an event. Now others will be able to see your event and join. Every event also has a chat to solve the issue of who is going to bring the ball.
But the practicality of SportsMunich doesn't end there. It also provides you with the exact location of public restrooms and drinkable water sources.
How we built it
We built SportsMunich with Flutter so it is able to run on Android, IOS and as a Web App. We are using Firebase for the Backend. It handles authentication, user profiles and event data. The interactive map uses OpenStreetMaps as a backbone. We also used information from OpenStreetMaps for the locations of public bathrooms and free drinkable water sources.
Challenges we ran into
Getting familiar with Firebase took some time. Getting the Backend and Map logic just right was also not straight forward.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We believe creating an interactive map that is synced between users is very cool.
What we learned
We learned how to do cross-platform development with Flutter, how to integrate geo data and maps.
