Inspiration

I was inspired by one of my most missed experiences during recent times: concerts. I see a lot of potential in the intersection of music and design as with the rise of Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and other streaming services almost everyone has unlimited access to the music of their choice. Everyone loves to share attendance of concerts on social media and I thought with Facebook's Spark AR platform musicians could create individualized filters to augment their concert experience driving traffic to Facebook and Instagram instead of competitors.

What it does

My Spark AR filter uses background segmentation in the front-facing camera mode to enable a user to identify where they are and who they are seeing quickly. In the back-facing camera, I used plane-tracking to augment reality and have album-relevant objects float above the stage so that videos of the artist are more visually engaging.

How I built it

I built supplemental images using the Adobe Suite and implemented the rest of the project inside of Facebook's Spark AR Studio.

Challenges I ran into

I had trouble testing the filter on my phone but I was able to use their Hub to test it through Instagram instead of using the phone preview feature built into Spark AR Studio.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud that I was able to learn a new program by myself in such a short period of time.

What I learned

I learned a lot about the workflow of Spark AR studio and was able to follow Facebook's tutorials to better understand the tools inside of the program.

What's next for Spark AR Filter for Concert Experiences

My next steps for the Spark AR Filter for Concert Experiences is to create custom 3-D objects for an artist an ideally work with one leading up to their concert once concerts can start to happen again. It would also be important to establish a way to distribute knowledge of the filter before the concert. Perhaps through posters featuring a barcode that links to the filter. Additionally, the front facing camera aspect could use polish. I would like to approach that in a way that allows the user to share their surroundings (say the crowd was huge or they had their friend next to them, while still establishing who they are seeing in an easy way. Further, I would like to look into how to better incorporate links to an artists music services so they could benefit as well, incentivizing artist's teams to create these filters.
