Inspiration

SoulSynce was inspired by the idea that music discovery should be more than endless playlists or short clips. I wanted to create a place where full songs, artist identity, alternate versions, conversation, and ownership could exist together.

What it does

SoulSynce is a music streaming and store platform built around the River, a cinematic carousel for discovering original songs and music videos.

Listeners can preview songs, explore Artist Worlds, view alternate versions, comment on music, share individual song pages, and eventually purchase songs into their personal library. Artists can upload music, create versions, publish albums, and connect directly with listeners.

How we built it

SoulSynce was built with React, Vite, JavaScript, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, REST APIs, JWT authentication, protected media storage, responsive CSS, analytics, and PWA features.

OpenAI Codex helped turn ideas into working features, trace frontend and backend wiring, debug playback and authentication issues, and audit protected-media behavior.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was building an expressive music platform while keeping it secure. Preview media and full media needed separate protection, guest access had to be limited, and ownership could never be granted from an unverified browser response.

We also worked through responsive carousel layouts, audio and video playback, artist approval, search, SEO, analytics accuracy, and authentication issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a working platform with a distinct identity instead of starting from a template. SoulSynce includes a custom discovery River, Artist Worlds, alternate versions, comments, albums, song pages, protected previews, artist tools, analytics, and installable app features.

The platform is now approaching beta with real songs, real visitors, registrations, and working listener behavior data.

What we learned

We learned that building a product is not only about adding features. The rules behind the features matter just as much.

A music platform must make ownership understandable, protect creators, protect media, measure real human activity, and make discovery feel rewarding. We also learned how important it is to verify the complete path from the browser to the API, database, and media layer.

What's next for SoulSynce

The next stage is beta. We are finishing payments, song ownership, artist payouts, live music sessions, and live song sales.

We also plan to add fair live submission rules, version-based music competitions, rotating discovery carousels, stronger artist analytics, and tools that help independent and AI-assisted artists reach listeners without reducing music to short-form clips.

SoulSynce’s long-term goal is to become a complete music ecosystem: create or upload a song, discover it, discuss it, experience its versions, hear it live, and own it.

Major progress: Fixed the backend distributionStatus metadata crash. Restored preview saving and song metadata updates. Confirmed new song uploads work. Confirmed preview timing saves and applies correctly. Confirmed uploaded covers display in Dashboard. Updated frontend service worker caching to avoid stale frontend files. Set up the new Backblaze B2 production bucket path. Created a restricted B2 application key for production media. Preserved old B2 settings for legacy media migration. Confirmed new B2 uploads are working. Improved Dashboard/Admin separation. Kept drafts private so new uploads do not appear publicly until published. Confirmed public Home/Search only shows published songs. Identified publish button UX issue for cleanup. Identified River carousel grouping issue for randomization. Planned safe old-B2-to-new-B2 migration. Planned artist-controlled pricing and bundle offers. Continued shaping SoulSynce Live as a future streamer/music support layer. What evolved: SoulSynce is no longer just a music upload site. It is becoming a protected music platform with artist dashboards, private drafts, previews, full-song protection, song pages, artist worlds, admin review, B2-backed media storage, and a path toward real ownership and payments. Core direction stayed the same: Real Music. No Shorts. Own It.
