In the United States and around the world, recycling and everyday waste has become an insurmountable problem. Many people try to recycle single-use products but most of the material in question is not technically “recyclable." We were inspired by the idea of understanding the composition of materials in the products we use everyday by creating an app with the capabilities of scanning everyday products and "sorting" them into categories for what you need to do with it.
Our application will have both consumer and business facing aspects to achieve success. The consumer facing aspect is a mobile app which will allow users to take a picture of their questionable recyclables. The app will use Computer Vision, AI, and the location of the user to prompt the user whether they should recycle or toss their garbage. This application will provide and educational experience for anyone looking to learn more about recycling and what goes into the products they buy!
We will aggregate this user collected data to help businesses make better marketing, design, packaging, and environmental decisions. We also plan to partner with different cities and recycling companies to provide a platform to better inform their citizens about recycling capabilities of the place they call home.
We learned how to maneuver and integrate a functionally cohesive strategy for both individuals and businesses alike.
We look forward to showing you what we've created!
