Inspiration :
The idea came from the need for a single digital platform where farmers can access all essential farming services—information, tools, financial help, and expert guidance—without switching between multiple apps or offices.
What it does :
The application acts as a digital companion for farmers, offering: AI-based crop and farming assistance , Real-time weather updates , Nearby agricultural store and service locator , Directory of farming tools and equipment , Access to government schemes, loans, and resources , Notes, reminders, and knowledge materials for better planning
How we built it :
The platform is developed using modern web technologies: Frontend: Next.js 16 with React 19 for fast and responsive UI AI Integration: Gemini AI for intelligent farmer assistance Backend & Database: Firebase for authentication and data storage Maps & Location: Leaflet for store and service mapping
Challenges we ran into :
Managing AI API rate limits efficiently, Optimizing map rendering for smooth performance, Supporting multiple languages for diverse farmer communities, Designing a UI that is simple and accessible for all users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
Seamless integration of AI for farmer support Dynamic map-based store and service discovery Clean, premium, and user-friendly interface Centralized access to farming resources and information
What we learned:
Best practices for integrating AI responsibly Effective use of React with Leaflet maps Importance of accessibility and simple design in farmer apps Handling real-world data and scalability challenges
What's next for smart kisan:
Integration with IoT sensors for real-time field monitoring Machine learning models for crop yield prediction Peer-to-peer marketplace for farmers to buy and sell directly Advanced alerts and personalized farming recommendations
