About SkillQuest
Inspiration 💡
SkillQuest was born out of my quest for knowledge as I pursue higher education. As someone who has been forced to pursue my bachelors online to handle family matters, I understand the financial and mental hardships that come with college. I was inspired by the idea of combining the power of video games with learning to create a platform that empowers individuals of all ages to expand their knowledge in a fun, convenient, and affordable way.
What I Learned 📚
Throughout this project, I learned the importance of user-centered design and the significance of fostering a strong sense of community within an educational platform. Since a lot of the content will be very text heavy and require visual aids alongside lessons, designing a clean format for the platform was a crucial factor. In addition, engaging visual elements are one of the defining traits that separate traditional learning from revolutionized education.
How I Built SkillQuest 🛠️
SkillQuest was built using HTML, CSS/SCSS, and JavaScript. Although unable to fully implement them, I designed mini-games specific to the lesson and subject. Each game is designed to be replayed to promote an new way to study.
Challenges We Faced 🚧
Creating a seamless and enjoyable gamified experience was the toughest challenge I faced in this project. Since I worked alone, it was my job to handle everything from the design concepts to the development.
Vision for the Future 🔮
As I present SkillQuest at this beginner hackathon, my vision is to create a free and open-source platform where people can learn on their own accord. I believe that education should be accessible to everyone across the world, and plan to carryout that mission with SkillQuest. I will continue to work on SkillQuest, and hopefully gather a team to expedite the process.
