Inspiration

You may have gotten lost while navigating a new and unfamiliar place. You may also have frequently pulled out your phone to check a map and your location and had trouble navigating to your destination by following the map.

What it does

Shorse is an augmented reality application that guides users to their specified destination by leading them along a designated path.

How we built it

We used Unity to create the application, C# to write the scripts for the AR environment, GPS to find the current location, we wrote our application for the XREAL device.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with the API keys for google, with dependencies and SDKs for unity packages, the accurate rotation and scalable size of our objects based on GPS coordinates created was a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the fact that we got our implementation working, we created an incredible team among people who didn't know each other, we're proud that we made an implementation even though none of us had any prior Unity or XR experience. We're also very proud that we were able to introduce programming to our newest team member in a developmentally heavy project.

What we learned

We learned how to use and program in Unity, how to utilize GPS and geolocation, how to reference the position of one object with another with vectors, how to update the position and direction of objects in AR, how to use project screen casting and mobile programming.

What's next for Shorse

We plan to implement a more fleshed out UI, multiple destination points, map display to pinpoint user's location
