Inspiration

Some people say that shopping is a fun way to relieve stress. However, you might have an experience that you were under stress to decide what to buy while you search for a better deal and compare prices between items. Shoppy only leaves you happy memories of shopping by erasing the time-consuming shopping process.

What it does

Shoppy is a mobile app that lists fees from a number of vendors to get rid of unnecessary efforts on comparing prices. Shoppy allows users to search for any products they want to shop by fetching the related items from multiple platforms and listing compared prices. Users can easily check the different offers from different vendors at once. Shoppy also puts links to the original website to let users check more details and make the best purchase shortly.

How we built it

Two designers started making mockups using Figma and Illustrator. At the same time, developers worked on the back-end and set up the database. Designers used Zeplin to deliver the design to developers once the screens were ready and developers implemented them.

Challenges we ran into

All designers and developers enjoyed this hackathon so much. The only challenge we had encountered was finishing the project within a short time. Since we are all based in the pacific time zone, we actually had less time to utilize. However, besides that, we are very happy with this chance to learn and grow together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to identify a real-world problem. Based on the user survey we have conducted, 70% of 10 participants said that they spend more than a few days researching to buy a product, and 70% said that they care about the price the most over other considerations. With this survey result, we figured out the solution to nail users’ inconvenience and built an app within 36 hours. What we learned

This is the first time that we need to brainstorm an idea and build a product within a very short time. We have learned how to communicate and collaborate more efficiently. We had a number of "lightbulb" moments and it was a great learning experience!

What's next for Shoppy

Due to the limited time, we only focused on one main feature which is searching and list data. However, Shoppy can be improved for future steps with additional features such as recording Wishlist for the next shopping reference and can implement detailed user-experienced design elements. The developers could not implement the front end according to the mockups because we ran out of time. We plan to implement the design very soon.
