Sentinel

AI-Powered Safe-Route Navigation with Buddy Travel Mode

What inspired us

With 51 crimes against women reported every hour in India and existing navigation apps completely ignoring personal safety, we are inspired to create the first proactive safety navigation system. Current apps prioritize speed over security, leaving millions vulnerable to preventable dangers.

What it will do

Sentinel will revolutionize personal safety through intelligent route optimization:

  • Will analyze real-time NCRB crime data and infrastructure safety (CCTV, lighting)
  • Will use IBM Granite 3.2 models and Agent Development Kit (ADK) for multi-agent intelligence
  • Will feature unique "Buddy Up Travel Mode" matching users on similar safe routes
  • Will provide three route options: "Max Safety," "Balanced," and "Quickest Safe"
  • Will integrate emergency dialing and automated safety check-ins

How we will build it

Our planned multi-agent AI system will leverage:

  • Crime Hotspot Detector: Granite NLP models will analyze incident reports
  • Route Optimizer: We will implement modified A* algorithm with safety scoring: \(S_{route} = \sum_{i=1}^{n} w_i \cdot s_i\)
  • Buddy Matcher: Will use geospatial clustering for compatible travel companions
  • Emergency Responder: Will provide automated alerts and emergency services integration

Challenges we anticipate

  • Data standardization from diverse government APIs
  • Algorithm balancing between safety optimization and reasonable travel times
  • Privacy protection in buddy matching while maintaining functionality

What we aim to learn

We expect to learn how multi-agent AI workflows require careful orchestration, understand government data reliability variations, and master cultural sensitivity when designing safety technology for Indian contexts.

What's next for Sentinel

Planned pilot deployment in Delhi and Mumbai targeting 40% reduction in safety incidents, with roadmap for nationwide expansion serving 1 million+ users through zero-cost scalability using open government APIs.

$$Impact_{projected} = Users_{active} \times Routes_{safer} \times Incidents_{prevented}$$
