Inspiration

Every year, millions of talented students, professionals, researchers, founders, and changemakers miss life-changing opportunities because they cannot find the right scholarships, grants, fellowships, internships, jobs, or accelerators. Even when opportunities are found, applicants often struggle with eligibility requirements, application writing, resume tailoring, and deadline management.

As someone who has personally applied for dozens of scholarships, fellowships, innovation challenges, and international programs, I have experienced these challenges firsthand. I spent countless hours searching across websites, newsletters, and databases while manually tailoring applications for each opportunity.

This inspired me to build Virgo AI, an AI-powered opportunity copilot that democratizes access to global opportunities and helps users discover, qualify for, and successfully apply to programs that align with their goals and potential.

What it does

How we built it

Scholar AI is built using Google's AI ecosystem and modern web technologies.

The platform uses Gemini to:

Analyze resumes and profiles Identify skills and strengths Match users with relevant opportunities Generate application recommendations Provide personalized guidance

The frontend focuses on creating a simple, intuitive experience that reduces friction and makes opportunity discovery accessible to anyone regardless of location or background.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing a system that could understand diverse user backgrounds while recommending relevant opportunities across multiple categories.

Another challenge was creating an experience that feels trustworthy and personalized rather than simply acting as a generic chatbot.

We also spent significant time defining the user journey to ensure that the platform guides users from discovery to application success in a clear and intuitive way.

Designed an intuitive user experience that reduces the complexity of discovering and applying for opportunities. Integrated AI-powered profile analysis to identify skills, strengths, and career interests. Established a foundation for democratizing access to life-changing educational and career opportunities. Built a waitlist and onboarding experience to validate user demand and gather early adopter feedback. Leveraged Google's AI ecosystem to create a solution with potential for global impact and accessibility. Designed the platform to support underserved communities by reducing barriers to opportunity discovery. Created a roadmap for future features including eligibility checking, application generation, interview preparation, and career guidance. Successfully launched the ScholarAI MVP. Acquired early beta users through waitlist campaigns. Built a working AI-powered opportunity recommendation prototype. Generated personalized opportunity recommendations using Gemini AI. Developed a user-centered platform focused on education, career advancement, and social impact.

What we learned

Building Virgo AI reinforced the importance of combining AI with real-world user needs.

We learned that access to information is only part of the problem. Many users also need guidance, confidence, and support throughout the application process.

We discovered that AI can dramatically reduce the time required to identify opportunities and prepare competitive applications, making life-changing programs more accessible to underserved communities.
