Samadhan

An AI-powered Municipal Coordination Platform powered by Google Gemini that transforms civic complaints into coordinated government action through intelligent analysis, response planning, and real-time departmental collaboration.

🚀 Inspiration

Every day, thousands of civic issues such as water pipeline leaks, damaged roads, overflowing garbage, and faulty streetlights are reported to municipal authorities. While reporting these issues is relatively simple, resolving them efficiently is often not.

A single civic issue frequently requires collaboration between multiple government departments. Unfortunately, these departments typically operate in isolation, leading to delayed responses, fragmented communication, duplicated efforts, and reduced accountability.

Most existing grievance management systems stop after registering a complaint, leaving the coordination process entirely manual.

With Samadhan, I wanted to rethink this workflow by leveraging Google Gemini to transform traditional complaint management into an intelligent, AI-assisted coordination platform for public service delivery.

The goal is not just to register complaints, but to help governments resolve them faster through intelligent collaboration.

💡 What it does

Samadhan is an AI-powered Municipal Coordination Platform that assists citizens, municipal departments, and administrators throughout the complete lifecycle of a civic issue.

Citizens can report problems using text, voice, or images.

Using the Google Gemini API, the platform automatically:

Understands the reported issue

Generates meaningful titles and descriptions

Recommends the responsible government departments

Determines priority and urgency

Creates AI-assisted response plans

Generates department-specific work orders

Suggests Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

If multiple departments are required for example, Water Supply, Roads, and Sanitation—the platform automatically creates a shared coordination workflow where every department collaborates on the same case in real time.

Administrators receive a centralized dashboard to monitor active cases, department performance, SLA compliance, and city-wide civic issues from a single interface.

🛠️ How I built it

Samadhan is built using a modern cloud-native architecture.

Frontend

React

TypeScript

Vite

Tailwind CSS

shadcn/ui

Leaflet

OpenStreetMap

Backend

Supabase

PostgreSQL

Authentication

Edge Functions

Realtime Database

Row Level Security (RLS)

Artificial Intelligence

The intelligence behind Samadhan is powered by the Google Gemini API.

Rather than functioning as a chatbot, Gemini actively participates in operational workflows by:

• Understanding civic complaints

• Identifying responsible departments

• Generating structured response plans

• Prioritizing cases

• Creating department-specific work orders

• Assisting municipal decision-making

This transforms traditional administrative workflows into intelligent AI-assisted operations.

⚡ Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing AI that integrates naturally into government workflows instead of simply generating text.

Building reliable department recommendations, creating meaningful AI-generated response plans, coordinating multiple departments in real time, and maintaining a responsive user experience required careful system design.

Another challenge was balancing advanced AI capabilities with a clean interface that remains easy for municipal staff to use.

🏆 Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Successfully built an end-to-end AI-powered municipal coordination platform.

Integrated Google Gemini into real operational workflows instead of limiting AI to conversational interactions.

Designed an intelligent multi-department coordination engine capable of assigning responsibilities and tracking execution.

Implemented AI-generated response planning and work-order generation.

Built realtime collaboration dashboards for government departments.

Developed a scalable architecture capable of supporting future smart-city initiatives.

📚 What I learned

Building Samadhan reinforced an important lesson:

AI delivers the greatest value when it augments human decision-making rather than replacing it.

Throughout this project I gained practical experience with Google Gemini, prompt engineering, realtime distributed systems, workflow orchestration, cloud-native application architecture, secure backend development, and scalable database design.

More importantly, I learned how AI can be applied to solve real public-sector challenges beyond traditional chatbot use cases.

🔮 What's next for Samadhan

The current platform lays the foundation for a much larger vision.

Future enhancements include predictive infrastructure maintenance, AI-assisted resource allocation, GIS-powered infrastructure planning, IoT integration, mobile applications for field officers, executive analytics dashboards, and offline support for on-site operations.

My long-term vision is to evolve Samadhan into a complete AI-powered Municipal Operating System that enables governments to coordinate infrastructure, public services, emergency response, and city operations through Google Gemini.
