Inspiration

This project was inspired by the game Five Nights at Freddy’s AR (FNAF AR). I was fascinated by its immersive experience and wanted to recreate a similar feeling using augmented reality, allowing users to interact with a horror environment directly in their own space.

What it does

Robot Apocalypse AR is an augmented reality survival game where a hostile robot appears in your real-world environment. The player must stay alert, scan the room, and react quickly to avoid being caught.

How we built it

The game was developed using Xcode, with Swift as the primary programming language. I utilized ARKit and RealityKit to bring 3D content into the real world and create a believable, interactive AR experience.

Challenges I ran into

One of the most difficult challenges was working with 3D models. Initially, I used a model of Springtrap from Sketchfab, which had built-in animations. However, the animations failed to work once imported into the project. After spending over two hours attempting to troubleshoot the issue, I ultimately decided to use a different model that was more compatible with RealityKit.

Accomplishments I'm proud of

I’m particularly proud of how much progress I’ve made in AR development. Just three months ago, I was completely new to this technology. Now, I’ve successfully created an interactive, animated experience that runs in real time.

What we learned

Throughout this project, I gained valuable experience working with animated 3D models, integrating audio into AR scenes, and debugging complex issues within Swift and ARKit. I also learned how to optimize performance and user interaction in augmented reality environments.

What’s next for Robot Apocalypse AR

In future updates, I plan to add a home screen, additional enemy types, improved animations, and essential bug fixes. The goal is to enhance the gameplay experience while continuing to refine the user interface and interaction mechanics.
