Inspiration
Indian roads face many challenges, including potholes, road damage, waterlogging, poor drainage, and traffic congestion. These problems can cause accidents, waste travel time, and make emergency transportation difficult. We were inspired to develop REVIVE ROAD to make roads safer, smarter, and more sustainable using technology.
What It Does
REVIVE ROAD is an AI-powered smart road infrastructure concept designed to:
- Detect potholes and road damage using computer vision.
- Monitor road conditions and identify potential risks.
- Predict road damage and support preventive maintenance.
- Identify waterlogging and drainage problems.
- Monitor traffic conditions and support safer journeys.
- Help authorities prioritize road repairs using collected data.
Our long-term vision is to support emergency corridors for ambulances and intelligent rainwater management.
How We Built It
Our proposed system combines Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), computer vision, GPS/GIS mapping, and data analytics.
Cameras or mobile devices can collect road images, while AI models can analyze them to identify potholes and other visible damage. Location data can help map detected problems. A dashboard can display road conditions and help authorities decide which areas need attention first.
Challenges We Faced
Some of the main challenges include detecting different types of road damage, handling changing weather and lighting conditions, collecting reliable road data, and designing a system that could work across different Indian road conditions.
We aim to address these challenges through better training data, image processing, location-based reporting, and continuous testing.
What We Learned
Through REVIVE ROAD, we explored how AI, IoT, computer vision, and mapping technologies can work together to solve real-world infrastructure problems. We learned the importance of identifying practical problems, designing scalable solutions, and considering safety, sustainability, and usability.
Future Scope
In the future, REVIVE ROAD could integrate real-time IoT sensors, predictive maintenance models, live road-condition maps, emergency vehicle corridors, and smart drainage monitoring.
