Inspiration

We got the idea for CivicPulseAI by looking at the civic problems we see around us every day. Potholes, garbage, broken streetlights, overflowing drains and damaged roads are common, but reporting these problems is not always easy.

Many people don't know where to report an issue, and sometimes they may not be comfortable explaining the problem in English. We felt that there should be a simple way for anyone to report a problem just by taking a photo and describing what happened.

That's how we came up with CivicPulseAI.

What it does

CivicPulseAI is a platform where people can easily report problems in their area.

A user can upload a photo of the problem and give a short description. The AI helps understand the image and identify what type of civic issue it is. We also wanted the platform to be useful for people who prefer their local language, so we added multilingual support.

The report can also include the location and the photo as proof. This makes the complaint more clear and useful instead of being just a text message.

The main idea is simple: see a problem, report it with proof, and track what happens next.

How we built it

We built CivicPulseAI as a web application and connected the frontend with AI services and APIs.

The user first reports an issue by uploading a photo and entering the details. The AI then analyzes the information and helps classify the issue. The location and photo are kept along with the complaint so that the report has proper context and evidence.

We worked on the multilingual part so that users can communicate in languages they are comfortable with instead of forcing everyone to use English.

Our basic flow is:

Report an issue → Upload photo → AI analyzes it → Add location and details → Create complaint → Track the complaint

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was getting the AI to understand different types of civic problems from photos. A photo can be unclear, taken from different angles or have multiple things happening in the same image.

Another challenge was multilingual support. People can describe the same problem in many different ways, so handling different languages and sentence patterns was something we had to think about.

We also faced some difficulties while connecting the frontend, APIs and AI services together. Debugging these parts and making sure the complete flow worked properly took quite a bit of testing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to turn an idea we had about a real problem into a working project.

The part we liked most about CivicPulseAI is that it is not just a normal complaint form. It combines photo proof, AI analysis, location and multilingual support in one place.

We also wanted to make the project useful for normal people, not just technically advanced users. Even someone who is not familiar with online complaint systems should be able to understand how to report an issue.

What we learned

While building CivicPulseAI, we learned a lot about connecting different technologies and making them work together as one application.

We learned about using AI with images, working with APIs, handling user input and building a proper frontend for a real-world use case.

We also understood that building a project is not only about adding features. We have to think about whether people will actually find it easy and useful to use.

Most importantly, we learned how a small idea based on a problem we see around us can be turned into a technology solution.

What's next for CivicPulseAI

There are many things we would like to add in the future.

We want to improve the AI so it can identify civic issues more accurately and understand the severity of a problem. We also want to add better complaint tracking and notifications so users know what is happening after they submit a report.

Another feature we are interested in is a dashboard that can show areas where many complaints are being reported. This could help authorities identify places that need more attention.

We also plan to support more Indian languages and improve the system based on feedback from actual users.

Our goal is to make CivicPulseAI a simple platform where people can speak up about problems around them and actually see their reports being taken forward.
