About RescueAI
Inspiration
Natural disasters such as floods and extreme rainfall can put lives at risk, especially when people lack timely access to reliable information and safety guidance. This inspired us to develop RescueAI, an AI-powered disaster assistance platform designed to help people make safer, more informed decisions during emergencies.
What It Does
RescueAI aims to analyze available weather and disaster-risk information, provide AI-assisted safety guidance, identify relevant emergency resources, and help users understand potential hazards through an accessible interface. The goal is to make emergency information easier to understand and act upon.
How We Built It
We designed RescueAI around the idea of combining artificial intelligence with publicly available weather data and location-based information. Our planned technology stack includes Python and FastAPI for the backend, React for the user interface, and AI-powered assistance for answering emergency-related questions. The platform can also incorporate maps and verified emergency-resource information to help users identify relevant services.
Challenges We Faced
One of the main challenges was considering how to provide useful guidance without presenting uncertain predictions as facts. Disaster information must be reliable, understandable, and timely. We therefore designed the concept to prioritize available data, clear risk communication, and responsible AI responses. Access to accurate, up-to-date emergency information is also an important consideration.
What We Learned
Through this project, we explored how AI can be applied to real-world problems beyond ordinary chatbots. We learned about the importance of data quality, user-centered design, responsible AI, and integrating different technologies into one solution.
Future Vision
Our vision is to develop RescueAI into a practical disaster-assistance platform that supports multiple languages, provides location-aware safety information, and helps communities access verified emergency resources. RescueAI is intended to complement—not replace—official emergency alerts and instructions.
Our mission is simple: use AI to make critical safety information more accessible when it matters most.
