Inspiration

Platforms like Pinterest, Dribbble, Mobbin, Unicorn Studio, and 21st.dev inspired us since these are spaces where creatives go to find inspiration. The distinction we wanted to make was that while these platforms are great for discovery, they lack structured ways to learn from and properly attribute the work that inspires others.

What it does

Remixd is a multi-medium design inspiration platform where users can discover creative work, remix it (build on others' work), and learn how to recreate it step by step using an AI-generated guide. It builds attribution directly into the workflow, allowing original creators to receive recognition, promotion, and commission when their work is remixed.

How we built it

We started by identifying problems within the creative sphere, specifically around attribution, learning, and incentives. After clearly defining the problems we were hoping to solve, we researched existing platforms for inspiration and looked for patterns that worked well and things we wanted to change.

From there, we iterated on both product design and system design in parallel, mainly focusing on incentives, user flows, interactions, and overall experience. We used tools like Figma for design, Notion for planning, and VS Code to collaboratively build the application, continuously refining both the UI and the underlying experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing around user behavior. We constantly asked ourselves questions like:

  • What if users don’t credit properly?
  • What if they misuse or bypass the system?
  • What incentives actually drive participation?

To address this, we spent a significant amount of time designing an incentive system that aligns user behavior with platform goals. This included introducing commission-based rewards, promotion rewards within the platform, and a structured remix flow that makes attribution intentional and seamless rather than an optional add-on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the fact that we were able to create a cohesive system where incentives naturally guide user behavior. The platform encourages both original creation and ethical remixing without relying on manual trust.

We also built a clean, seamless UI that reflects the creative nature of the platform while keeping the experience intuitive and easy to navigate.

What we learned

We learned how to collaboratively iterate on ideas as a team, rapidly prototyping, testing, and refining complex systems together. This included improving our skills in task management, communication, and documenting ideas clearly for each other.

We also gained experience using collaborative tools like Notion, Figma, and VS Code, and learned how to effectively build on each other’s work in a super fast-paced environment.

What's next for Remixd

For our next steps, we want to expand Remixd by integrating real AI-powered analysis to generate dynamic, high-quality step-by-step tutorials. We also plan to develop a production-ready incentive system with real payment infrastructure and more advanced creator analytics.

Beyond that, we aim to scale the platform’s discovery and graph systems, making it easier to explore creative networks and uncover emerging creators through remixing and creative searching methods.
