People who want to eat healthy often buy healthy groceries but don't know how to use them.

What it does

This app allows you to take a picture of your groceries receipt and suggests different recipes for you to make!

How we built it

We used tesseract API, an image recognition software to translate the receipt image to text, then used the Nutritionix API to find closest match for imperfect text. Then, we used Edamam API to search for recipes based on the list of ingredients. We hosted it on Github.

Challenges we ran into

Installing programming environments, learning to use API's, trying to use the Android Studio camera2 library at first but it wasn't working, so we had to switch to a web app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We all learned something different and pushed ourselves to our limits. Particularly, none of us have worked with APIs before and ended up creating something that actually worked on the backend in 24 hours.

What we learned

We learned that we are capable of more than we thought

What's next for RecipEats

We may try to get this onto an actual mobile app.

posted an update

We were unable to get a mobile app up and running so after a lengthy round of attempts, we decided to go with a web app for demo purposes, however, we ran out of time to deploy on Heroku/Flask so this is what we have!
