Tired of looking at the task of cooking food like it's a chore? Want to take your cooking skills to the test? Become a Leet Cooker, with Recipe Set Go! With Recipe Set Go, you can add flavor to your food and cooking by taking on the daily recipe challenges through the app and challenge yourself with your cooking abilities. We aim to find a fun and creative way to help with cooking and consistently improve on your craft. Cooking frequently ends up becoming more of a chore that weighs us down than a fun and delicious task. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our day-to-day work loop that we sometimes forget the fun that cooking can bring. As a result, we want to change that outlook and bring the spark back to household cuisine while bringing competition to the kitchen.

What it does

  • Recipe Set Go is a mobile app that has users participate in timed cooking challenges where they are provided with a dish they must recreate under a said amount of time. The app then judges the accuracy of the finished dish using image recognition to produce a winning score.

How we built it

  • Branding, and design: Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
  • Backend: SQalchemy, Python, Flask, Google Vision API, CockroachDB, Google Cloud Platform
  • Frontend: React, Ionic, JavaScript, Facebook API, Edamam API,

Challenges we ran into

  • Building an interface with multiple functions within the given time constraint
  • Creating a visually appealing app while encompassing various elements and features

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Creating an application from scratch that effectively makes home cooking more engaging

What we learned

  • The importance of an aesthetic app and clean UI
  • Application of CockroachDB's database management and clusters
  • How to work with CRUD based operations when using Flask
  • Configuration of Sqalchemy to map schema architecture
  • Collaborating efficiently by capitalizing on team members' individual strengths

What's next for Recipe Set Go

Bringing the app to the public! We plan to expand the outreach to the public by having Recipe Set Go available on Android or IOS. Additional judging features could also be implemented in the future to help with additional score accuracy on the user's dish. For the financial aspect of the app, cooking websites could have their recipes featured on the app in the form of challenges to help attract users to their site.
