RakshAI Every day, people rely on navigation applications to find the fastest route to their destination. However, these applications focus primarily on traffic and travel time, while personal safety often remains unaddressed.

We were inspired by a simple idea: "If Google Maps can warn users about traffic congestion using red, yellow, and green roads, why can't it warn users about potentially unsafe areas in the same way?"** This led us to create RAKSHAI, a platform that combines community-reported incidents, location intelligence, and AI-driven risk analysis to help users identify safer routes and make informed travel decisions.

What it does? RakshAI is an AI-powered safety navigation platform that visualizes route safety on a map. The platform allows users to:

  • Report unsafe locations and incidents.
  • View safety-rated roads and areas.
  • Analyze the risk level of a route.
  • Identify high-risk zones through color-coded map visualization.
  • Access an SOS feature during emergencies.
  • Contribute to a community-driven safety network.

Inspired by traffic maps, RakshAI displays:

  • 🟢 Green roads for safe areas
  • 🟡 Yellow roads for moderate-risk areas
  • 🔴 Red roads for high-risk areas

This enables users to quickly understand the safety conditions of their surroundings and choose safer paths.

How we built it? We developed RakshAI as a full-stack web application. Frontend:

We built a custom safety-scoring engine that evaluates reported incidents based on factors such as frequency and severity. The resulting score is used to classify routes and road segments into different safety categories, which are then visualized directly on the map.

Challenges we ran into! One of the biggest challenges was the lack of publicly available real-time safety data. To address this, we designed a community-driven reporting mechanism that allows users to contribute incident information and continuously improve the platform's understanding of local safety conditions.

Another challenge was creating an intuitive visualization system. We wanted users to understand route safety instantly without reading complex analytics. This led us to adopt a familiar traffic-style color coding system for safety visualization.

Balancing route safety with route efficiency was also challenging, as the safest route may not always be the shortest route.
