Inspiration
The weather generally plays a big part on our daily mood and plans. Why not let the weather have a say in your music tastes as well? Nature is a powerful thing, and its behavior invokes a wide variety of emotion. At times, people listen to music based on the way the weather outside makes them feel, from listening to soft beats during rainy days to cheerful tunes on bright summer days.
What it does
The web-app uses geolocation and the OpenWeather API to display two unique Spotify playlist based on the weather. It not only gives you playlists based on your local weather, but unique animated backgrounds that are determined by weather as well.
How We built it
The app was primarily built using React.js and JavaScript. The weather was retrieved by using the OpenWeather API, while the playlists were taken from Spotify via the Spotify API. We programmed in javascript the specific conditions a pair of Spotify playlists and background would appear based on the weather retrieved.
HTML and CSS were also used to support the frameworks and for styling purposes. The logo is a vector created with Adobe Illustrator.
What's next for raindropped., a weather-based music player
Why not take this project to the next level by adding news? People can then read their morning news while listening to some nice calm tunes! (depending on the weather at least.) The next iteration may even allow users to pick what moods to associate to certain weather conditions as well!
