Inspiration
QuackEQ was inspired by the increasing recognition of emotional intelligence as a vital skill for children to navigate their lives with confidence and empathy. We noticed that while there are many resources focused on academic growth, emotional development often takes a backseat. Our goal was to create a fun and interactive way for children to explore their feelings, understand others, and open the door for meaningful conversations about mental health within families.
What it does
QuackEQ helps children build emotional intelligence by encouraging them to reflect on their emotions daily and explore scenarios that challenge them to consider different perspectives. The app provides interactive prompts to help kids identify and express their feelings while offering parents tools to engage in open conversations about emotions and mental well-being.
How we built it
First we used Adobe Illustrator to draw Quacky our mascot and the scenarios for our app. Next we used PowerPoint to make a mock up of the pages in our app and we used python to bring our visions to life!
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges due to the time restraint. We had so many big ideas for our project, but not enough time to execute them. This led to us sitting down and discussing our priorities. Once our goals were reframed, their execution became more manageable, and we were able to have more successes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite our beginner level, we are proud that we successfully turned an abstract idea into a tangible product. The process taught us how to collaborate effectively, overcome technical hurdles, and stay committed to our vision. Most importantly, we are proud of the potential Quack EQ has to positively impact children and families.
What we learned
This project taught us invaluable lessons in problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience. We learned how to break down complex tasks into manageable steps and adapt when faced with unexpected challenges. We also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of emotional intelligence and how technology can be used to foster meaningful change.
What's next for QuackEQ
Looking ahead, we aim to expand Quack EQ by incorporating more interactive features, such as gamified scenarios and rewards to keep children engaged. We also hope to gather user feedback to refine the app and make it even more effective. In the long term, we envision Quack EQ becoming a tool not just for children but for educators and counselors to promote emotional well-being in schools and communities.
