We were inspired by street performers/vendors who usually have a jar or their instrument cases open in hopes that people contribute. However, people nowadays no longer carry cash as often and we wanted to find a solution that would allow users to tip people with their phones. This is how props was born...
What it does
Props is an Android app that connects to a vendor's Estimote Beacon and allows people to learn more about their vendor and allow them to contribute a tip.
How we built it
We sketched and prototyped the app with Adobe Illustrator, Sketch, Photoshop, and InVision. The client is built in Android which can automatically connect with nearby Estimote devices. The user and payment data is stored on our backend Rails server which is currently deployed on Heroku.
Challenges we ran into
The beacon wasn't working at some points and we had trouble getting Google authorization to work as well as with using the Paypal API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built it end to end and everything connects to each other! Yay! We have a landing page that can prove product and user validation. We have a functional prototype, all our services are running, etc.
What we learned
We learned how to use the Estimote and more about Android development
What's next for Props
Trying to see how many people are interested in our app using the landing page so we can move forward with our product
