Inspiration

We recognized that, despite there being a great number of resources available for people in the LGBTQ community and allies, there isn't any consolidation of information.

What it does

This app collects information on LGBTQ identities, civil rights initiatives, relevant resources, and Pride events into one place for interested individuals. It also helps people within the LGBTQ community connect to others through opportunities like chat rooms, forums, and hotlines.

How we built it

We utilized Xcode and Swift along with design tools like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create a navigable, streamlined iOs app.

Challenges we ran into

As first time mobile developers, we faced difficulties adjusting to language and style of app development; notably, none of our team had prior experience with Swift. Additionally, we did not have the technology to test our app with a simulator until we merged all features at the very end. This resulted in a failure to get all elements of the app up and running. Namely, the Resources feature is not functional in the app. However, we have included screenshots to show the intended functions of this section.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Using GitHub for a project of this magnitude was a new experience, and doing so successfully was a huge stepping stone for our team. Moreover, keeping good practice was important to our team and integral to the development process.

What we learned

We learned how to create an app, along with the fundamentals of mobile development and Swift.

What's next for PrideGuide

PrideGuide will expand to live updates and a more dynamic feature for necessary sections, like current events. Also, the local sections of the app need to be implemented, as our current functionality is defaulted to Durham, NC and was done statically. There is certainly room for growth and further development within PrideGuide. We'd like to expand pages for each identity, as we currently have only the asexual page developed at the depth we would like for demo purposes.
