History, as entertainment.
Most people will never sit down to read about Genghis Khan or Attila the Hun. But they'll watch two of them argue on a couch, and by the end they'll know what each one actually did.
That's the idea behind the new Up Late with Rex Sterling, PNN's late-night show, every night at 9 PM Pacific. Two figures from history come out for the evening: a Mongol khan, a Hun king, a Greek philosopher, a French emperor, a Roman, a pharaoh, and more. The host is a flat, tactless interviewer asking what no one dares to ask, in the spirit of Between Two Ferns. The guests are who they really were: proud, cold, and unimpressed with him. The questions are the ones everybody already has: the reputation, the famous quote nobody can source, the myth. The answers are the real story, delivered short and sharp.
Behind it is a research library built for it: 30 historical figures, each with a fact-checked sheet, 1,300+ sourced facts, 300+ stories, and 190 popular myths marked as myths, with what the record actually says. A guest is only booked once their sheet has been checked. The show is written and voiced live by AI, and what a guest says about their own life comes from that research.
