Inspiration
We wanted to create something that would help improve student life here on campus. On Snapchat and other social medias, there are always postings of “found items” without any way of knowing how they could be returned to the correct place.
What it does
We embody this belief of improving wellbeing by relating the main function of our website to a Lost and Found system. Here, students are able to post any findings they have of objects and where they returned them to. We also wanted to include a map for a visual feature.
How we built it
We used React for front end, typescript for our coding language, spring boot for back end, and My SQL for the database. We used illustrator for the graphics.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out how to link between pages, trying to narrow down the scope, and communicating between front end and back end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our ability to learn new softwares and overcome challenges as a team. We feel as though our idea is creative and outside of the box.
What we learned
Since this was all of our first times competing in Pickhacks there were several things we learned. We learned how to use React, how to work as a team while collaborating in GitHub, and general formatting tips.
What's next for Pickaxe Protection
We would love to expand our project by including a better login system, a feature that allows you to request a lost item, and a feature that allows students to publicly post about general safety concerns in the area.
