Inspiration

As a photography enthusiast, I have accumulated thousands of photos over the years. However, my photo library became increasingly difficult to manage. Photos were scattered across different computers, external hard drives, and cloud storage platforms. Limited storage space made it impossible to keep everything in one place, while repeated backups often resulted in duplicated files and wasted storage.

I wanted to build a system that could help me unify, organize, and rediscover my personal photo collection — not just as files, but as meaningful memories.

How I Built It

Photo Vault was developed as an AI-powered photo management platform. The core features include:

• Smart Search & Comparison: Search across multiple photo folders and compare images to identify similar content and provide file organization suggestions.
• Duplicate Detection: Analyze photo similarities and detect repeated images across different storage locations.
• Location-Based Memory Map: Extract GPS information from photos and visualize travel experiences on an interactive map.
• Achievement System: Introduce gamification by tracking photography milestones, explored locations, photo collections, and personal achievements.

With the assistance of GPT-5.6 and Codex, I was able to rapidly transform ideas into a working application, from architecture design and feature implementation to debugging and optimization.

Challenges & Learnings

One of the biggest challenges was managing large-scale personal photo collections efficiently. Photos are not just simple files — they contain metadata, visual information, and personal memories. Building a system that could organize photos while preserving their context required careful consideration of data structures, search methods, and user experience.

Another challenge was designing a meaningful motivation system. Instead of creating a simple storage tool, I wanted to make photo management enjoyable. By combining analytics, maps, and achievements, users can see their photography journey evolve over time.

Through this project, I learned that AI-assisted development can significantly accelerate software creation. GPT-5.6 and Codex helped me move beyond writing individual pieces of code and allowed me to focus more on product design, user experience, and solving real-world problems.
