One Bowl: Hack Your Lunch and Your Life
Americans are overweight, out of shape and increasingly rely on food lacking in nutrient density. Many try diets repeatedly, and fail, repeatedly. Less than 15% of Americans meet USDA daily recommended fruit and vegetable intake. Why? Because as a nation, people no longer know how to cook and work obligations crush free time. Taking on a new diet requires constant vigilance and commitment that is easy to break. Every new habit can be helped with training wheels.
What it does
One Bowl helps people onramp to healthier lives, incrementally. Diets are hard. We suggest swapping just one meal each day for a One Bowl meal. One bowl of tasty, protein-packed nutrient density each day. Hack your lunch!
How I built it
I took publicly available nutrition data from USDA and created my own food graph of flavor combinations. This is the foundation for making custom salad recipe recommendations, tailored to the tastes of each user. Tell One Bowl what you have in the fridge, we'll tell you what you could eat with it.
Additionally, the skill can recommend how to stock your pantry, provide individual data on particular foods, tell you . Essentially, I want to provide the foundation for a full health reset.
Challenges I ran into
Data tracking. Creating my own API for the first time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Well, I essentially built my development pipeline for a lot of other skills. Skill development will be a lot easier, going forward!
What I learned
What's next for One Bowl
If this generates enough users, then I will likely create chat-based mobile clients for iOS and Android so people can access their information from work/on vacation. Very curious to use Lex as the foundation for extending conversational skills to other platforms outside of a user's kitchen.
