Inspiration
NyayaSutra was inspired by the idea that understanding legal rights should not depend on language, education level, or access to expensive legal help. We observed that many people struggle to understand even basic legal terms, especially in regional languages, which motivated us to build a solution that makes legal knowledge more accessible, inclusive, and easy to use for everyone.
What it does
NyayaSutra is an AI-powered legal assistant that helps users understand their rights and get basic legal guidance in all 22 languages recognized by the Indian Constitution, making it truly inclusive. It also supports voice input, allowing users to interact with the chatbot more naturally. Along with this, it provides a simple FIR generation feature, helps users find the nearest police station using GPS-based location as well as manual address input, and offers a list of emergency contact numbers. The platform also includes basic chat functionalities like viewing and clearing chat history for a smooth user experience.
How we built it
We built NyayaSutra using modern web technologies combined with AI integration to process user queries and provide simplified legal explanations. We integrated speech-to-text functionality for voice input, along with location-based services for GPS-enabled police station search and manual input flexibility. Our focus was on building a clean, user-friendly interface while ensuring multilingual support and smooth functionality across all features.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was simplifying complex legal language without losing its meaning. Ensuring consistency and accuracy across 22 different languages was also difficult. Implementing reliable voice input and integrating location services smoothly, while keeping the interface simple for non-technical users, were additional challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a working prototype that delivers multilingual legal assistance, supports voice interaction, integrates practical features like FIR generation and GPS-based police station access, and maintains a simple and accessible user experience.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned technical skills like AI integration, handling multilingual systems, working with voice and location-based services, and designing user-centric interfaces. We also learned the importance of empathy—building solutions that genuinely solve real-world problems.
What's next for NyayaSutra
Going forward, we aim to improve response accuracy, enhance language and voice capabilities, strengthen NGO and support network integrations, and add real-time legal updates. In the long term, we aspire to collaborate with government bodies and public service platforms to expand accessibility and make NyayaSutra a trusted digital companion for legal awareness and support.
