Inspiration
Did some volunteering with Lakeshore Preservation Party so wanted to contribute to local wildlife conservation.
What it does
It is a map tool that you use to sort by county and see user submitted sightings of plants and animals. You can also upload your own images which our web app will help identify what's in it.
How we built it
Backend is written in Python, and the frontend is a basic HTML, CSS, JavaScript stack.
Challenges we ran into
A lot of the issues we ran into was figuring out how to do the API calls and figuring out the direction we wanted to take the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
With the finished design, it is a useable and helpful tool to see local nature.
What we learned
We learned about different AI image analysis API's and some helpful VSCode extensions that enable efficient collaboration like LiveServer and LiveShare.
What's next for NatureScope
Maybe we will find a more accurate model to run the image analysis on.
