Inspiration
Being international students, we faced similar issues while traveling in the current pandemic situation and wanted to make a difference for future passengers so they can have a superior and safer experience.
What it does
Our project green path helps airline passengers navigate inside an airport safely through the sanitized zones. This ensures that our passengers have a greater sense of safety, hence a better experience.
How we built it
For the backend, we used American Airlines API for flight data and created two other self-managed databases for airport and point of sale records. We then used Java to fetch the data and generate safe zones (green) and unsafe zones (yellow and red).
Challenges we ran into
- Since we were using M1 processor based MacBooks, we were unware of the underlying compatibility issues, so we had to change our tech stack.
- Setting up local databases was new for us, and we had to struggle a bit to get them working with Java on top of it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finally getting it done on an M1 Mac.
What we learned
- How to host self-managed databases.
- Use American Airlines API to generate flight data.
- Integrate database with Java.
What's next for Green Path
- Host the API and databases on the cloud.
