Inspiration

Natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, and extreme weather events affect millions of people every year. Although governments issue emergency warnings, many people fail to receive them on time or cannot understand them because the alerts are available only in a few languages or are broadcast to everyone regardless of location.

We wanted to solve this problem by building an AI-powered multilingual emergency alert platform that delivers accurate, location-specific, and easy-to-understand emergency notifications directly to the people who need them most.

What it does

AlertBridge AI is an intelligent emergency alert platform that automatically collects disaster alerts from official government sources and sends personalized emergency notifications to registered users.

During registration, users provide their:

Name Email Password State District/Location Preferred Language

After email verification, users can securely log into the platform.

The dashboard displays their registered information and includes an Enable/Disable Alert option, allowing users to control whether they receive emergency notifications.

The system continuously monitors official government disaster alerts.

Whenever a disaster is detected:

Only users registered in the affected location receive the alert. People outside the affected area are not disturbed by unnecessary notifications. A warning notification is also sent to people living within a 5 km radius of the affected region to encourage early preparedness.

Each alert includes:

Disaster type Affected area Date and time Severity level Government source Easy-to-understand explanation Disaster-specific safety instructions Emergency contact numbers including Police, Ambulance, Fire Services, and Women Helpline.

To ensure accessibility, every alert is automatically translated into 16 Indian languages, including several rare regional languages.

The user's preferred language always appears first, followed by the remaining supported languages.

The platform also supports manual alert broadcasting, allowing administrators to create test alerts by selecting:

Disaster type Location Date Time

These alerts are delivered only to registered users in the selected location.

How we built it

The system consists of several integrated components:

User Registration and Email Verification Secure Authentication Government Disaster Alert Integration Location-Based Filtering Engine AI Translation Engine Automated Email Notification System Manual Alert Broadcasting Module Safety Instruction Generator Emergency Contact Integration

We used:

OpenAI Translation API Brevo Email API Government Disaster Data Sources Modern Web Technologies for Frontend and Backend Challenges we ran into

Some of the biggest challenges included:

Mapping disaster alerts to specific user locations. Ensuring only affected users receive notifications. Supporting multilingual translation while preserving the meaning of emergency alerts. Delivering alerts instantly through email. Designing disaster-specific safety instructions instead of generic messages. Building a scalable location-based notification system. Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a fully automated multilingual emergency alert platform. Implemented location-specific emergency notifications. Added a 5 km surrounding warning system. Supported 16 Indian languages. Integrated official government disaster alerts. Included disaster-specific safety instructions. Added emergency helpline numbers. Enabled both automatic and manual alert broadcasting. What we learned

During this project we learned:

AI-powered language translation Email automation API integration User authentication Location-based filtering Emergency communication systems Designing scalable real-time notification platforms What's next for AlertBridge AI

Future improvements include:

SMS notifications WhatsApp alerts Mobile application Voice alerts Push notifications Offline emergency broadcasting Interactive GIS disaster maps AI-powered disaster prediction Integration with more national disaster management agencies
