Inspiration

We were inspired by the growing “intention to action” gap in sustainability. Many people genuinely want to live more sustainably but feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start. We wanted to create a simple, empowering tool that helps everyday consumers take real action, starting with something as common as the products they buy and the clothes they wear.

What it does

Minus is a mobile app that helps users make sustainable choices with ease. By scanning a product’s barcode or searching by name, users can view a Sustainability Profile Card showing its environmental impact. The app also provides:

A Recycling and Reuse Guide with step-by-step local instructions

A Sustainable Marketplace that recommends greener alternatives

A Local Circular Connector that maps nearby repair shops, thrift stores, and donation centers In short, Minus reduces waste and maximizes action.

How we built it

We designed the user flow and wireframes using Figma, ensuring a clean, intuitive interface. Our prototype emphasizes accessibility, combining infographic visuals, a chatbot interface, and geolocation-based features to make sustainability practical and personal.

We ran into some challenges with the prototype so our working prototype is a little different than the UI
