Inspiration
As second year students, we often find ourselves struggling to find the time to care for our mental wellbeing. We wanted to come up with an easy solution that busy students may use without having to go out of their way to seek help.
What it does
MINDSPACE is an interactive platform that gives students the opportunity to take a moment to check in with themselves whether it be by journaling or by a simple mood quiz.
How we built it
We used adobe illustrator to design the various pages and activities that MINDSPACE has.
Challenges we ran into
Going into this hackathon, our team had little to no experience coding. Both of our members are actually majoring in mechanical engineering and therefore had to use other skills to complete this event. We utilized our design skills into creating our submission and our passion for helping others. Another challenge we ran into was time. Our initial goals were to create our platform using Adobe xd but we had to come up with another solution and that happened to be using adobe illustrator to bring our ideas to life.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some accomplishments we're proud of are getting this idea out in time before the hackathon ends. Also for being able to do this without any coding experience.
What we learned
During our research for mental health resources in post secondary institutions, we learned that a lot of schools actually overlook this important topic. We then took this opportunity to create our platform but it's still disappointing how schools let their students down with the little effort put into mental health and wellness.
What's next for MINDSPACE
MINDSPACE is ready to be tested and created as a website. The design is done but the logistics and creation still need to be dealt with.
