Inspiration
Being a BCIT student is hard. With 8+ courses a term, it's easy to forget to take care of yourself. But we found that it can be easier to make sure our pets eat on their regular schedule than to make sure we do! We created MindPet so that while you take care of your pet, you can make sure to take care of yourself too.
Chat with your kitty and stay up to date on assignments and exams. Watch your pet graduate with you! Get the companionship of a pet, even when your schedule or your landlord doesn't allow it.
What it does
- Take care of your kitten! Feed it, play with it, and put it to sleep
- Chat with your pet, using the OpenAI API
- Add your to-do list items and get reminders when its time to get studying!
How we built it
- Designed on Figma
- Built using React, Vite, Tailwind, OpenAI API, and local storage
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was likely delegation and time constraints. We had very different skillsets and technical experience, so trying to align within such a short period of time ended up being our biggest challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got most of our functions down and a killer design and exciting concept. Our developers Sora and Tony showed such determination and worked so incredibly hard on bringing our ideas to life. Minty and Ann had such a concrete vision and did such a great job not only communicating their ideas, but implementing them and making them a reality with seamless collaboration. We did the best with what we had available to us and a fun time doing it!
What we learned
Collaboration is a real skill that needs to be exercised and practiced!
What's next for MindPet
There are a few functions we didn't end up having the time to complete. In an ideal world, we would have had time to create a log in system and a database for remote and longterm storage and off-app notifications. We also created animations for our pets, but had some technical difficulty with integrating them in React.
