Inspiration

We were inspired by our own aspirations to migrate to foreign countries in the future. From our previous experiences, understanding the different processes and regulations when migrating to another country is an extremely tiring process, hence we felt that others were likely to encounter this problem when moving to Singapore. For example, if your first language is not English, how would you fill up the necessary forms (mostly in English)? Additionally, all the information you need to know is scattered all over the place!

To tackle this problem, we propose MigrateSG, a centralised platform for users moving to Singapore to research its socioeconomic environment, evaluate eligibility for migration, and apply for a pass/permit conveniently.

How we built it

We built our web-app proof of concept with ReactJS front-end. Our wireframes were done in Figma and additional key visuals with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

You can try our Figma prototype here, or watch a video demo of it in action! :)

What we learned

From this hackathon, we learnt how to use a User Journey Map to place ourselves in users' shoes and understand their needs and wants from their perspective. By really empathising with their painpoints, we learnt to come up with more robust features, such as a chatbot/virtual assistant JJ the Jetplane that could alleviate the mental stresses that users go through during the application process. Ultimately, we have learnt that it is a process that developers should reiterate over and over again to produce the best products for users.
