Inspiration

We noticed the decrease in cultural awareness in Indonesia over the past few years, especially among the younger generation. As modernization and global influences continue to grow rapidly, many traditional values, arts, and cultural practices are slowly being forgotten or overshadowed. This shift concerns us deeply — because culture is not just a relic of the past, but a living, breathing identity that shapes who we are as a nation.

We believe that preserving Indonesia’s cultural diversity is essential not only for national pride but also for education, creativity, and unity. Yet, in today’s digital age, the traditional methods of teaching culture often fail to capture the interest of modern learners.

That’s why we created this website — a platform designed to bridge the gap between heritage and technology. Through articles, interactive galleries, and culture-based games, we want to make learning about Indonesia's culture fun, engaging, and accessible. From guessing provinces through Street View to memorizing traditional recipes with the help of AI, our aim is to bring the beauty of Indonesian culture into everyday digital experiences.

This project is our contribution to cultural revival — one that empowers users to explore, appreciate, and keep alive the richness of Indonesia’s traditions in a format that speaks to their generation.

How we built it

We designed, coded, researched, and tested everything ourselves. This project reflects our collective growth from learning new tools to understanding the depth of our own cultural roots.

One of our biggest challenges was getting the AI to behave as expected—balancing creativity with control took time and iteration.

We successfully created Mekar with dedication, teamwork, and heart. Seeing the concept come to life is a proud moment for all of us.

What we learned

Through this journey, we discovered many overlooked and underrepresented cultures across Indonesia. It reminded us how much beauty exists when we take the time to explore.

What's next for Mekar

We plan to:

• Expand our database to include more regional stories and art forms
