This was written for Jamchester 2017 but wasn't submitted for judging.
The theme for this year was "Shape the Future" so I decided to do a one player split game where the player swaps between the past self and the future self with the exception that only objects moved in the past will effect the future.
The game (as it stands now) only lets the character move in the allotted area, has two enemy sprites that patrol and "kill" the player when spotted and can swap between the future and past version.
It took me a while to get up to that point but the issue that I mainly had was trying to get the right (as someone else put it) "narrative mechanics". I liked the idea of the past self effecting the future self but I was stuck (tunnel vision-wise) on having the player start off in a house and I just couldn't get it to work. Eventually, late on in the jam, I finally managed to figure about a better way and thought about the future player being stuck in a warehouse with the past player helping to shift boxes to help the future player to avoid the guards - so basically some Sokoban-type hybrid.
